The most commonly used filter is a P3RD which has PressToCheck™ and is the easiest way to face-fit check the seal of your respirator, every time you put it on! The range features HEPA filtration exceeding 99.97%, Low profile design maximising compatibility and low breathing resistance across the range.
P3 means the filter works to a minimum of 99.5% filtration efficiency.
R means the filters are reusable.
D means the filters are resistant to dust clogging.
When heavily used, you should replace filters if breathing becomes difficult. However, you should always replace filters at least once a month as germs and mildew can grow on the filter elements. Whilst the filters may seem to be working as normal, you could be breathing spores and germs that have been growing for some time.

No. You must ensure that PPE works well together. The reason we love and promote JSP products is that they are a system. If you need to wear head protection, you can attach other PPE such as ear defenders that fit by design. If buying items separately, you should try and test them.
Not in our opinion. Whilst they are rated to P3 and can achieve the same protection rating, there are other factors from what we’ve witnessed. Disposable masks tend to be thrown into work bags like rags, they become battered before use. They are also designed for one task (possibly one day), we see them used repeatedly like an old pair of gloves. Lastly, when put on most people pinch the nose bridge which doesn’t create a good seal, the nose bridge should be smoothed into place (imagine rubbing face cream).
The use of PPE is still a late consideration of a hierarchy of control. If you can use other protections first, then you should. We’re old-school and still use ERICPD:
Eliminate the hazard (don’t do it that way. i.e. if cleaning a window from a ladder, change to a pole system)
Reduce the risk (use different equipment or methods such as a less dangerous chemical)
Isolate the hazard (use screens etc)
Control (training, supervision, machine guards, LEV etc)
PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
Discipline (make sure systems are followed, conduct checks)
With a hierarchy of control, we work from the top down and only use PPE to work with another control or where the higher levels of control aren’t possible.
Not necessarily, our choices above are all really quite reasonable and are the best in their category from our experience.
