RIDDOR applies to work-related deaths, major injuries, over-7-day injuries, occupational diseases, and dangerous occurrences. We help determine if reporting is needed.

How quickly can you respond?

Why use an external investigator?

Independence and experience. Internal investigations tend to stop at the immediate cause, often the injured person's own actions, because looking further means questioning decisions colleagues made. An external investigator has no such difficulty, and has usually seen the same underlying failures before. If enforcement or a civil claim follows, an independent investigation also carries considerably more weight.

What happens if the enforcing authority gets involved?

All accidents and near-misses should be investigated, though the depth of investigation should be proportionate to the actual or potential severity. Serious incidents require thorough investigation; minor incidents may need only brief review. The key is to identify and address causes before a more serious incident occurs.
What is a RIDDOR reportable injury?
Specified injuries that must be reported include fractures (except to fingers, thumbs and toes), amputations, serious burns, loss of consciousness, and injuries requiring hospital treatment for more than 24 hours. Any injury causing more than 7 consecutive days off work must also be reported.
